Glasgow head coach Franco Smith hailed the passion of Sione Tuipulotu after naming the centre as his skipper for Saturday’s visit of the Bulls in the United Rugby Championship.

With Kyle Steyn still out with a hamstring problem, Scotland international Tuipulotu will lead out the team for the first time since arriving at Scotstoun in the summer of 2021.

Smith told glasgowwarriors.org: “Sione has been a stand-out player for us in the opening rounds and plays a key part in our leadership team in training and on game days.

“He’s passionate about this club and is fully deserving of the honour of leading the team out on Saturday night.”

Smith has made three changes from last weekend’s defeat by the Ospreys in Swansea.

Number eight Matt Fagerson, scrum-half George Horne and full-back Josh McKay all return from injury to start, the latter making his first appearance of the season.

Jack Dempsey (rib) and Rufus McLean (hamstring) miss out through injury, while Ali Price drops to the bench.
