Sergeal Petersen bags brace as Bulls paste Zebre Parma

Bulls strengthened their hopes of securing a home quarter-final in the United Rugby Championship with a comprehensive bonus-point 63-24 win over Zebre in Pretoria. The South Africans crossed nine times through Sergeal Petersen (2), Zak Burger, Stravino Jacobs, Jan-Hendrik Wessels, Marco van Staden, Marcell Coetzee, Harold Vorster and David Kriel, with Keagan Johannes converting seven and Boeta Chamberlain two.

In reply, Jacopo Trulla, Giovanni Montemauri and Tommaso Di Bartolomeo went over for Zebre, Montemauri converting two and Giacomo Da Re one, with Alessandro Fusco adding a drop goal.

Thanks for the great article Nick. There is another sport with centralised governing system and unions which make money off the international game but not the domestic and thats cricket. Its slowly evolving though. The IPL has changed everything and now every national cricketing body devotes 5-10 weeks of the calendar to a T20 league with private ownership that makes real money and with assets that appreciate for owners and for the unions. Rugby just needs one such league to show the way and with the terrible financial reality facing the All Blacks and RA perhaps its time for them to revolutionise Super Rugby in such a way. With major competing interests, power in the hands of unions, political pressures and all sorts complications its more likely that rugby in NZ will take a half baked measure to maintain the status quo while doing nothing really at all.

This is a great test for the wallabies to measure their improvement prior to the Bledisloe. Reality should bite us, and a narrow loss would be a good result. A win is unlikely but you never know.

Canham is a great loss in this test.

Wallabies have lost the last 10 games in a row vs ABs, unfortunately without being able to pick overseas players, means only Oz Super players available etc.

And yip, ABs have had parts of their games exposed but the issue there is that the weaknesses identified are probably the weakest area for the Wallabies - tight 5 - scrum/lineout/maul and where will lose Topou/Hooper.

Losing Hooper and Tupou is a big issue for sure. ABs will be in a strange place - soundly beaten and knowing parts of their game exposed, and a few players out with injury. Will be very interesting game.

Really can't see resting any player completely doing any good. After resting a player from playing he could get injured in the first game he plays when returning. His work load could certainly be monitored and rested between certain games.
