Scotland suffer triple injury blow with two recruits added to squad
Glasgow Warriors hooker Gregor Hiddleston and Sale Sharks scrum-half Gus Warr have both been added to the Scotland squad following injuries to Dave Cherry and Jamie Dobie.
Vannes hooker Cherry has picked up a calf injury in camp with Scotland, while Glasgow’s versatile back Dobie has a knee issue. The pair will remain in camp with Scotland as they prepare for their Guinness Six Nations campaign.
Edinburgh flanker Liam McConnell, however, has returned to his club following a rib injury.
The uncapped 23-year-old Hiddleston was one of the surprise omissions from Gregor Townsend’s original following a brilliant campaign for the United Rugby Championship leaders, also starring in Investec Champions Cup victories over Toulouse and Saracens. He was named in Nigel Carolan’s Scotland A squad that will face an Italy XV.
Warr will provide cover for Dobie at scrum-half, but fails to provide the versatility that the Warriors star brings, who has played some of his best rugby this season on the wing.
