Scotland rocked by triple injury blow ahead of Fiji clash
Glasgow trio, Alex Samuel, Kyle Steyn and Rory Darge, have been ruled out of Scotland’s Test against Fiji at Murrayfield on Saturday due to injury.
Steyn and Darge both started last weekend’s 42-28 defeat to South Africa in Pretoria but are now unavailable.
The Fiji match will be the first one that they have missed this year, having been present in the starting line-up throughout the Guinness Men’s Six Nations and the first two rounds of the Nations Championship.
Steyn is out with a foot injury and Darge has been stood down due to concussion after failing an HIA at half-time in Pretoria.
Four-cap international Samuel was originally named in the matchday 23 against the world champions, but pulled out on the morning of the game with a knee problem and was replaced on the bench by club teammate Max Williamson.
Gregor Townsend confirmed post-match that Samuel’s injury requires surgery, keeping the 23-year-old on the sidelines for several weeks.
Townsend had already lost prop Elliot Millar Mills to a calf injury sustained during the win over the Argentina in round one.
Coming up against Fijian side well beaten by Wales and England, Scotland will be wary of a backlash. Not that complacency will be a problem with their 29-14 defeat to the Pacific Islanders 12 months ago still fresh in the memory.
So far, Townsend has yet to bring in any additional players as cover.
