Red Roses confirm return to World Cup venue for 2027 Six Nations

The Red Roses will return to Sunderland’s Stadium of Light in April 2027, with Scotland set to provide the opposition in England’s second match of the Women’s Six Nations.

The fixture will mark England’s first appearance at the 49,000-capacity venue outside a Women’s Rugby World Cup, following their record-breaking 67-9 victory over the USA in front of 42,723 fans in 2025.

England’s return to the North East will take place on Saturday 17 April, with the RFU hoping to recreate the atmosphere that made their Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 opener such a memorable occasion.

The 49,000 capacity venue will host just its second rugby fixture on Saturday 17 April when Scotland make the trip to take on England.

Ellie Kildunne said: “It was an amazing atmosphere to be a part of – one of the favourites in my career. I just remember the noise when we got off the bus and the amount of time the fans stayed behind afterwards.

“It was incredible. They really spurred us on that night. If the match with Scotland can replicate anything close to that night, it’s sure to be another memorable occasion.”
