This included an important 21-15 win for the Boland Dames, who secured a vital win against Western Province at Boland Stadium in Wellington.

At half-time the scoreline read 7-5 in favour of the Dames. A penalty for Western Province’s Elme Kruger nudged the visitors ahead after the break, before scores for Felicia Jacobs and Arthea King gave the hosts an insurmountable lead.

In the closing stages Donelle Snyders’ score put Western Province back in the picture, only for the desperate defence to keep the Cape Town teams at bay.

A strong first half from the Golden Lions Women helped the Johannesburg team to a 19-18 win over the Sharks in Durban.

Siyonela Macamba and Zonke Sethi’s tries helped the Lions to a 12-0 lead at half-time.

But to take a lead the Sharks watched Nobuhle Mjawara and Nomonde Mbanjwa dot down, as well as two Mary Zulu penalty goals sail through the uprights, to give the hosts a 18-12 in the closing stages.

The Lions dug deep and powered Aretha Thomo over the whitewash and allowed Kristen Cox to kick the match-winning conversion.
