The Welsh outfit had trailed 28-19 with 10 minutes of the Pool Two encounter remaining but rallied brilliantly with tries from Dan Edwards and Luke Davies snatching victory in the closing stages.

The hosts had built up their advantage after tries from Theo Attissogbe, Fabien Brau-Boirie, Eliott Roudil and a penalty try.

Ryan Conbeer claimed Ospreys’ opener in the first half while Evardi Boshoff and the inspirational Jac Morgan also crossed after the break. Edwards converted three tries.

The bonus-point win secured second place in the pool but while they could celebrate, group rivals Dragons missed out on a place in the knock-out stages as they were hammered 60-10 by Lions in Johannesburg.

Scarlets qualified from Pool Three as they held on for a 38-28 win over Vannes after a blistering first-half display in Llanelli.

Josh Macleod touched down twice and Blair Murray, Gareth Davies and Tom Rogers also scored as Scarlets raced into a 31-0 half-time lead.

Marnus van der Merwe added another after the break, with Ioan Lloyd landing a fourth conversion, but Vannes showed some fight with Romaric Camou, Matthieu Uhila, Paul Surano and Leon Boulier scoring tries.

Yet it was too little too late as Scarlets completed the job.
