Official statement on alleged Ben Stokes and Saracens player incident

The England and Wales Cricket Board have issued a statement regarding an alleged incident involving captain Ben Stokes, opening bowler Gus Atkinson and a Saracens player.
The ECB released an 80-word statement on Monday evening confirming that they are “investigating a breach of team protocols” over an “incident” that took place in the early hours of Monday morning, the night after England defeated New Zealand at Lord’s – their first Test since a dismal Ashes series, which was marred by off-field controversy.
While there was no mention of any Saracens players in the statement, The Telegraph reported that the incident involved a Saracens player, who they have since revealed was 21-year-old Totoa Auva’a.

The statement reads: “The ECB is currently investigating a breach of team protocols following the conclusion of the first Men’s Test against New Zealand.
“Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were present at a nightclub in the early hours of Monday morning when an incident took place.
“We are currently seeking further information, and an announcement regarding the squad for the second Test will be made in due course.
“The Cricket Regulator has been informed and we will provide a further update when possible.”
Saracens have not released an official statement yet, but the club said when speaking to Sky Sports News: “We are aware of an incident involving an academy player connected to Saracens on Sunday evening.
“The club is currently establishing the full facts and is in contact with the relevant authorities and individuals involved. Once this process is complete, the matter will be reviewed and addressed appropriately.
“We will make no further comment at this time.”
Saracens’ season ended on Saturday with a 32-12 loss to bitter rivals Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park, condemning them to fifth place in the Gallagher PREM and snapping their five-match winning streak.
