Leinster back-row Max Deegan has been banned for two matches following his 20-minute red card against Ulster last week in the United Rugby Championship.

The Ireland international was yellow carded on the hour mark by referee Andrew Brace for taking Werner Kok out in the air, although it was upgraded to a 20-minute red card.

In a hearing this week, the 29-year-old accepted that he had committed an act of foul play which warranted a red card.

Judicial officer Achille Reali determined that the offence met the red card threshold with a low-end entry point of a four-week ban. However, due to Deegan’s apology, clean record and good conduct throughout the disciplinary process, the ban was halved.

The Irishman will therefore miss this weekend’s URC meeting with Benetton, as well as the Investec Champions Cup semi-final clash with Toulon the following week.
