Leinster bag first win, Glasgow Warriors put Welsh strugglers to sword

Leinster earned their first win of the season with a crushing 31-5 victory over Sharks at Aviva Stadium.

The Irish side opened the scoring in the 10th minute as Jamie Osborne latched onto James Lowe’s kick before he touched down.

The hosts then scored twice in five minutes to take a 21-point lead when Jimmy O’Brien and Josh van der Flier crossed the whitewash.

Sharks got themselves back in the contest with a try – nine minutes before the break – after Ethan Hooker collected a long pass out wide and ran over to cut the deficit.

Leinster restored their advantage nine minutes after the interval through Max Deegan, who secured their bonus point.

The home side sealed their first win as Gus McCarthy was quickest to react from a loose lineout and touched down for his first try for the club.

OSPREYS SOAR OUT OF THEIR RUT
Ospreys ended their winless start to the United Rugby Championship season with a convincing 24-0 victory over Zebre.

Phil Cokanasiga opened the scoring in Bridgend by crossing after 16 minutes with Morgan Morse adding a second try just two minutes later.

James Ratti crossed over for a third try seven minutes from time but they could not find a fourth for a bonus point.

Fly-half Dan Edwards also contributed nine points with the boot as the Welsh side – who lost their opening two contests against Bulls and Stormers – ended a four-match losing streak dating back to last season.

Italian side Zebre started their campaign with two victories, but they were not match for a dominant Ospreys.

Ospreys return to action when they entertain Glasgow next Saturday.

GLASGOW RUN RIOT WITH SEVEN TRIES AGAINST DRAGONS
Glasgow scored seven tries at Scotstoun in a 49-0 victory over Dragons, who remain winless.

The Warriors scored twice in the first half as skipper Kyle Steyn put the hosts in the lead in the ninth minute before Gregor Brown set up George Horne, who rushed over the whitewash midway through the half.

The home side quickly took the game away from Dragons after the break as they scored twice through Brown and Gregor Hiddleston, who ran over for the bonus-point try.

HHorne dived over the line in spectacular fashion to put Glasgow over the 30-point mark and the hosts showed no mercy as they extended their lead, with Johnny Matthews sent crashing over the whitewash.

Glasgow put the cherry on top of a perfect evening in the final minute when they were awarded a penalty try after Jamie Dobie was brought down off the ball.
