International Champ Rugby prop earns prized Top 14 move

Worcester Warriors prop Tim Hoyt will be playing his rugby with Lyon in France next season after signing a two-year deal with the Top 14 club.

Hoyt is the third prop to be signed by Lyon, who announced the move on Instagram, joining Tongan Opeti Helu and Argentinean Thomas Gallo.

A tight-head, Hoyt has made the Warriors’ starting XV in 11 of his 18 appearances this season, having moved to Sixways from Leicester.

The 23-year-old made seven appearances for his former club in the Premiership Rugby Cup and one in the Premiership.

He has also played for Champ outfits, Chinnor and Nottingham, and England U20s before committing to Fiji, for whom he has two caps, against France and Spain last Autumn.

Prior to the move to Lyon, Worcester head coach Matt Everard spoke highly about Hoyt. “He is a brilliant young prospect of a tighthead. It is absolutely no surprise that he is on some top teams radars.”

So far, Worcester have announced that they have retained the services of Uruguayan full-back Juan Gonzalez, Australian back-rower Tim Anstee, Welsh fly-half Will Reed and former PREM centre Tom Seabrook for the 2026/27 season.

If he showed some form in SA, I would actually prefer him to QT/Proctor - I think his best days are behind him, lost speed but think defensively is superior to aforementioned players - and against big SA Backs in De A and Kriel want someone to lock down that outside channel.

For me real pity that AJ Lam left for France, big body, defence sound and had the ability to get across the gainline with leg drive etc. Saw some news articles earlier this year that mentioned that Rennie wanted NZ Rugby to enourage him to stay in NZ and can understand why - as 13 is a real issue for us.

They can manage it with three. Game 1: Ratima starts, Preston on the bench plays last 10 mins. Game 2 (Wednesday): Preston starts, Ratima plays the last 10. Game 3 Roigard starts as it’s likely a dry run for a mainly top 23, Ratima on the bench. They can do it fairly easily with three halfbacks. Injury is the issue, I guess, but they can call up a replacement or addition to the squad if needed.

It seems they aren’t moneyball guys at all. I and plenty others thought they were from their emphasis on BIGGA. I bet that a lot of other stats are correlated to that one. And the fact that rennie himself referenced segners numbers as being very high, and kirifis being down on last years as to why segner got in over kirifi. But the facts don’t show that. Kirifis numbers are actually better than i thought. It doesn’t fill me with a ton of confidence when a coach contradicts himself like that.

The All Blacks picked him mate. They knew where he was and what he was doing. Sabbatical or not, what he does in his time is his business. He didn’t choose to get picked for the All Blacks or to be Captain. They knew what they were picking and it comes with a rest.

Anyway, it’s a great opportunity for others to step up and lead. It has to happen at some point, so let it happen.

My point really was just how much the money he earns might hold a higher value for him than say Scooter..the unity is already there By George you see it on the socials all the time been watching snd sll you see on the boys faces atm is big smiles Ardie will be welcomed with open arms 10 days before test 1 ready to rip in

Not being able to practice whilst your mates are sweating it out is still not ideal and in some cases would mean you not being selected but it was a special case with a special player involved it’s exactly the same for Ardie who not only great player but a great servant of NZ rugby Schoolboys U20s 7s ABs been going at it more than a decade and may I add some saying he chose money by going well money to a dude who didn’t even have a car in the family growing up might have a very different value on that money and how that can provide a life he could only dream about for them

These New Zealand journalists and ex-players act like they're the ones in charge, always demanding certain players or positions as if their opinion is fact, and now they're all insulted that Ardie Savea is being rested, because they think they know his body better than the coaches do. But if they're such geniuses, why aren't they coaching top teams around the world instead of just writing columns and making noise from the outside?

It’s not in the the realms of fantasy he is obviously a quick learner and it’s kind of a risk reward thing you cannot deny he goes at it no matter and you know going to get a voracious defender in saying this I’m hoping we see Pledger kick on as it can’t just be about mitigation on the bench but real deal impact

I am a South African - and there is not a single Springbok captain I can think of who would send his mates into battle while he lay in bed with his wife. Good luck with the upcoming tour. I agree he doesn’t have to play those provincial games but let me tell you any Springbok captain would be in the changing rooms, on the practice field and running water for those provincial games. If he was my captain I certainly would not want to play for him.
