Ian Madigan has brilliant Twitter conversation with not so observant rugby fan
One of the enduring qualities of Twitter is that it can pitch average Joe Soaps sports fan into direct dialogues with people of varying degrees of fame, be it sporting or otherwise.

One such Twitter thread occurred in the wake of Bristol’s victory over Cornish Pirates at Ashton Gate on Friday, in which Bristol flyhalf Ian Madigan came to the defence of the officiating.
All three of the officials were women.
A fan wasn’t best pleased with the female referees, Tweeting: “That was sadly the worst officiating I’ve seen in a long time! Embarrassment to the league and the game in general. Was this first time there’s been 3 females? Hasn’t helped cause of getting more female officials in to game – sadly. Did occasion get to them = silence from TMO?”
Madigan did not agree, but the Tweeter he responded to didn’t quite appreciate the Irish pivot’s perspective on the matter.

I disagree with ??rubbish. I thought the Referees ran the game well in difficult conditions. Making some tough calls along the way.

Did you watch the game live or on TV? There seems to be a big difference in opinions depending on how game was viewed. Don’t think there were difficult conditions?

Hopefully this will mean a new Auckland league team to support in the west. Big Warriors fan but it’s very, very stale on that front and I’d like the option of another team if it was to watch league again. League needs to step up BIG time if its to get anywhere, another AK team and something from the capitol or south is a must for the game.

They’re being well paid to sit in the injury ward every year. Better off putting those funds towards someone who might actually play.

71 Go to commentsYep, lost in translation. There are arrogant people in Ireland, yes. As there are arrogant people in every country, but as a nation, arrogance is not a general characteristic in Ireland. There has not really had a strong representation for any global sport over the years, and hence arrogance is not endemic to Irish people in this regard. I seriously doubt that was said or meant by 12 or 13 players. If it was said, it would have been said in jest and to pay Etzebeth and the Springboks a compliment for how hard fought the game was.

If coaches played their players through niggles and consistently played them 80mins then you could make an argument for resting protocols - they obviously don’t and are incredibly responsible, let’s give up the resting nonsense and let the boys play.
