Huw Jones out of Lions contention

By Jack Davies
Scotland’s Huw Jones.

Huw Jones’ hopes of British and Irish Lions selection appear to be over after the Scotland centre was ruled out for at least four months with a torn hamstring.

Jones was forced off after 26 minutes of Saturday’s 29-0 victory over Italy in the final round of the Six Nations, stumbling as he closed in on the try line.

The Stormers man, who had been tipped by many to be part of Warren Gatland’s Lions party, will now undergo surgery on the issue, which could see him miss up to five months.

“DHL Stormers centre Huw Jones has torn his hamstring playing for Scotland in the Six Nations and will undergo surgery in London,” read a statement from the Super Rugby outfit.

“This means that Jones will not be able to train for four to five months.”

Jones will join Glasgow Warriors next season on a two-year contract.
