Fijian flyer becomes second Paris Olympian to sign for Newcastle
Fijian flyer Joji Nasova has become the latest player with Olympic experience to sign with Newcastle Red Bulls.
The 25-year-old plays wing or outside centre, and has already touched down four tries in three Tests for Fiji after transitioning from a hugely successful international sevens career.
A silver medalist at the Paris Olympics, Nasova was named in the 2025 HSBC SVNS Series Dream Team following a stellar campaign on the world circuit which saw him as the competition’s joint top scorer, with 26 tries.
Signed up to play Super Rugby with the Fijian Drua during the 2026 campaign, Nasova has already made his international 15s breakthrough, scoring on his debut against Canada and then twice more in his second cap as Fiji beat Japan in the Pacific Nations Cup final.
Nasova’s third Test in November of this year brought yet another try in a 41-33 away win over Spain, and Newcastle Red Bulls’ sporting general manager Neil McIlroy is excited by the impact that the 6’1 star can make on Tyneside.
He said: “Joji is an electrifying runner who can really help spark our attack into life.
“I’m sure our supporters will enjoy the X-factor he brings on the field, and we’re really excited about the impact he can have here.”
Last week young Kiwi winger Fehi Fineanganofo joined the Red Bulls from the Hurricanes, having previously played 7s at the Paris Olympics for New Zealand.
