Fijian winger Onisi Ratave has extended his stay at Benetton Rugby beyond the end of this season after signing a new one-year deal.

The 33-year-old has been with the URC outfit since 2022, scoring 23 tries in 42 appearances for the Lions, and has become a fans favourite in his time in Treviso.

“I am extremely happy to extend my stay at Benetton. I sincerely thank the club for their continued trust in me: it means a lot to me, both professionally and personally,” said Ratave, who was once part of the Flying Fijians and Fiji 7s setups, without ever being capped.

“I’m thrilled to continue this journey with an extraordinary group, with whom I share ambition, a spirit of sacrifice, and a desire to grow. I can’t wait to continue working hard, improving every day, and contributing to the team’s goals, both on and off the pitch.”

Benetton Rugby president Antonio Pavanello added: “Onisi represents a hugely valuable profile for our club, not only for his physical and technical qualities, but also for the consistent impact he manages to make in every match.

“He is a player who stands out for the intensity and creativity he brings to the pitch. He is spectacular in attack thanks to his ability to break tackles and create runs, but at the same time he is solid in defence.

“His characteristics make him a unique winger in our squad, capable of providing different solutions to our playing system.

“Furthermore, over time he has also become a true favourite among our fans, thanks to his approach to the game and the energy he transmits on the pitch.

“We are very satisfied with his journey in the green and whites and are confident that he can continue to be a key player in the next season.”

Benetton, who will be coached by ex-Wales boss Wayne Pivac next season, have made a couple of statement signings in the past couple of weeks, with Wallaby centre Josh Flook and New Zealand Maori lock Isaia Walker-Leawere agreeing to come on board.
