All Black winger Emoni Narawa has penned a new deal with NZR and the Chiefs, committing to a three-year contract that will see him remain until the end of 2029.

The Chiefs flyer who was schooled at Hamilton Boys High, has played 50 caps for the Chiefs since returning from the Blues in 2022. The Fijian-born speedster debuted for the Blues in 2020 and made seven appearances.

While he has seen plenty of action in Super Rugby over his career, his international career hasn’t gone exactly to plan with just four Tests in three years.

The 26-year-old was an All Black bolter in 2023, making his debut in Mendoza against Los Pumas where he scored in a 41-12 win. But that would be his lone appearance that year as a back injury ruled him out of further action and a potential Rugby World Cup in France.

Last season he made his fourth Test against the Springboks, starting on the right wing at Eden Park. He scored a memorable try within the opening minutes from a cross-field kick, going under the legs of Willie le Roux and selling a dummy to Cheslin Kolbe. But his night would be cut short once again, sufffering a broken rib minutes later in an aerial contest.

It’s the appeal of more caps with the All Blacks, as well as the chance to feature at the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia, that has kept Narawa in New Zealand.

“Wearing the black jersey has been an honour and I’m excited for the opportunity to compete for a spot to wear it again and chase my World Cup dream,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to what’s ahead and hoping I can help our Chiefs wh?nau secure a Super Rugby title. My little family and I are blessed to stay here. God is good.”

Head coach Jono Gibbs was ecstatic about Narawa committing to the club as they chase a Super Rugby title after three straight runners up.

“Having him stay is a terrific endorsement of what we are doing at the club. It’s great to know he not only wants to help us win a Super Rugby Pacific title, but that he has serious goals about getting back in the All Blacks and helping them win Tests too.”

Fihaki has to be in the mix his high ball ability and kickoff chase ( wins one every week with 2 hands) can kick long and accurate and speed is underrated see him mow down Carter other week or the try against Drua last year legit plays fullback and both wings my four if they can fit them in is both the Caleb’s Carter Fihaki will be interesting to see how Leroy goes at 13 this WE but if Narawa could get more time at 13 and 15 plays both wings great bench option but for now is he still in the mix?

I quite agree with you. Tangitau still needs to work on his defense… but the All Blacks can’t afford to do without a player like him right now. The All Blacks’ wings haven’t been particularly fast in recent years, and Tangitau would bring something immediate.

For me, the two Calebs and Jordan are the favorites to make up the back three. Let’s imagine kicks from Mo’unga or Love for Tangitau, similar to what France does with Ramos and LBB. That would make a huge difference.

I don’t believe in moving Jordie Barrett to fullback (15) — I don’t think that will happen. On the other hand, seeing him at outside centre… I think that’s not impossible, especially to make room for a more powerful number 12. The centre position… I feel like we’re going to be talking about it a lot in the coming months. Manu is having a very good season in France, and what if he were to come to New Zealand at the end of the season?

The young centre from Kobe is interesting as well… and I’m not sure about his contract situation. Nothing is decided yet.

To come back to Narawa, he is a very complete player… a very good defensive winger. Personally, I could see him playing at centre, where he regularly plays for his province.

Nice! Have you seen the Kobe fella? I was only joking when I mentioned his name. Good point about Manu as well, had left him for dead but good to hear he’s turning his season around.

Good player, should be first choice 14 or second choice if Will Jordan plays there.

Absolutely not.

Narawa no longer has the pace he had when he broke into the squad 3 seasons ago. Narawa has really slowed.

Caleb Tangitua and Cody Vai are right wings with so much more pace than Narawa, as does Jordan.
