Cornish Pirates joint head coach, Gavin Cattle, has hailed Will Becconsall as “an old head on young shoulders” after signing the scrum-half on a permanent basis from Exeter Chiefs for the 2026/27 season.

Cornishman Becconsall, 23, has made 13 appearances across two loan spells for the Pirates, scoring his only try against Chinnor last month.

He made his Chiefs debut in 2022 and went on to make more than 20 appearances, including the PREM Rugby Cup final win over London Irish at Brentford in 2023.

“I’ve loved my time down here over the last couple of years and am really looking forward to the season ahead,” Becconsall added.

“The club has a great bunch of lads and a great fan base. I can’t wait to be playing rugby on home soil.”

Meanwhile, Cattle, a former Pirates scrum-half, who was selected a joint-record five times in the Champ Dream Team, is delighted to have Becconsall on board full-time.

“Will has had some tough luck with injuries the past couple of seasons,” said Cattle.

“He has a strong kicking game and has an old head on young shoulders. He has infectious energy that put smiles on faces. A enthusiastic, talented Cornish lad – a no brainer!”
