Reynecke, a television rugby analyst and a celebrated rugby player, suffered a stroke last week Thursday.

The latest news on Reynecke, 36, is that he is improving but he is still being kept sedated.

After retiring from rugby, he became a mixed martial arts fighter.

Reynecke played more than 150 first-class matches – including 40-odd for the Lions, 40-odd for Connacht and 20-odd for Saracens.

He also represented the Stormers, Western Province, Cheetahs and Pau.
