Edinburgh Rugby snap back with feisty response to fan criticism
Edinburgh Rugby’s social media admin has got involved in a tit-for-tat spat with a fan account on X, that has fewer than 200 followers.
Proudly announcing that 10 players would be representing the capital club in tonight’s Hive Stadium clash between Scotland U20s vs England 20s, Edinburgh Rugby declared “the future’s bright” in an upbeat post.
However, it drew short shrift with the EdinburghRugbyFan account, who came back with the rebuke. ‘Trying to shift the spotlight’, followed by a ‘thinking face’ emoji.
The fan account might have been referencing the fact that for the first time since 1998 (303 Tests) not a single Edinburgh player has been selected in the Scotland senior men’s starting XV.
Loose-head Pierre Schoeman has been dropped to the bench, joining his Edinburgh teammate and Scotland’s second-highest all-time try-scorer, Darcy Graham.

In response to EdinburghRugbyFan’s comment, the club said in exasperation: “We’re quite literally promoting a match taking place in our home stadium, whilst shouting about the next generation of Edinburgh players who are all on (sic) pulling on the Scotland jersey tonight. Should we not be proud of having 10 academy players representing their country?
“We’re backing the lads, so should you.”
Edinburgh have had a disappointing season to date, winning just three of their 10 games to sit in 13th place in the URC table. While the renewal of head coach Sean Everitt’s contract was not universally popular.
Determined to have the final word, EdinburghRugbyFan replied: “I absolutely do back the lads, it’s the under-performing club which accepts mediocrity that I have umbridge with.”
