Scarlets confirmed in the last hour that the Wales and British & Irish Lion will join forces with the region in time for the 2017-18 season having signed a National Dual Contract.
On their website the club write: “Revered as one of Welsh rugby’s treasures, Halfpenny will join Guinness PRO12 champions Scarlets with regional and the championship’s supporters getting the opportunity to see a backline that will include the Man of the Series from the last two Lions tours.”
“Halfpenny’s goal-kicking is world-renowned and fans, sponsors and partners alike will be excited by the prospect of the talented Lion working under the guidance of Wales’ second highest record points scorer Stephen Jones.
“The 28-year-old was central to the British & Irish Lions’ triumphant tour of Australia in 2013, scoring 49 of the team’s 79 points across the three Tests and was named Player of the Series. He went on to make four appearance during the 2017 tour, including a test appearance against the All Blacks.”
Halfpenny will face former club RC Toulon in this season’s European Rugby Champions Cup campaign with both sides ready to go toe-to-toe for the second season on the bounce and for the third time in the competition in four seasons.
He will bring with him a wealth of experience to add to the exciting blend of hungry, young local talent progressing every day that creates a competitive environment and competition in each and every position.
