Former Origin great Andrew Johns has stunned viewers for his demeanour during an awkward post-match interview with Channel 9’s panel that included Queensland greats Cameron Smith and Paul Vaughn.

Host James Brace asked Johns where the biff came from as centre Matt Burton and Dane Gagai went hammer and tongs in a throwback to the olden days of State of Origin.

Johns had an icy reply, only to say “Well, it’s no tomorrow.”

When pressed again by Vaughn, Johns responded with a salty answer that stunned his fellow panelists, particularly former Queensland captain Cameron Smith who was left in awkward silence.

“Joey can you put your finger on why NSW lost tonight?” Vaughn asked.

“Why? Well, you won the big moments,” Johns replied.

“Now we have to listen to all the bulls*** from you (Queenslanders) in the next 12 months. It drives you mad.”

Claiming an Origin series in Brisbane has been an elusive achievement for New South Wales, with just two sides completing the task through history.

Andrew Johns was part of one of those teams, instrumental in the Blues win in 2005 in Game III.

It was the second time in the space of three years that Fittler’s men have had the chance to wrap up the series in Brisbane, only for a depleted Queensland side to pip them and leave them soul searching.

“I’ll take tonight off if that’s okay (before worrying about next year),” Fittler said.

“Plenty went wrong throughout the whole campaign, from the start.

“I love it, it’s great. This contest, this crowd, everything about it is fantastic – it’s a shame we didn’t nail it.”
