Brumbies issue update on Allan Alaalatoa's weekend injury versus the Reds
Brumbies captain Allan Alaalatoa is expected to return to action within weeks after sustaining a lower leg injury during Saturday’s Super Rugby Pacific match against the Queensland Reds.
The 66-Test Wallaby left the field in the 48th minute of the match at GIO Stadium and did not return.
With the British & Irish Lions series around the corner, it was a sight that will have caused concern for Wallabies and Brumbies given the tighthead’s history of injury setbacks – not least an Achilles rupture that ruled him out of the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
In a statement released on Monday the Brumbies confirmed that Alaalatoa had undergone scans which revealed a low-grade calf strain.
The injury is not considered serious and the 31-year-old is likely to be available for the Brumbies’ upcoming finals campaign and the Wallabies’ Test series against the Andy Farrell’s Lions.
“The Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies can confirm that captain Allan Alaalatoa underwent a scan with Garran Medical Imaging on a lower leg injury this afternoon, after leaving the field during Saturday’s fixture against the Reds at GIO Stadium,” the club said.
“The results of the scan are favourable and show a low-grade calf strain, which should have him return in the next couple of weeks.”
Alaalatoa has been a regular starter for the Brumbies throughout the 2025 season and almost certainly part of Joe Schmidt’s plans for the arrival fo the Lions in late June.
