Yes, I think Rennie’s success is in part due to a group of players coming into excellent form this year. Players like Holland and Love. Can’t honestly say that of Roigard, as he was very good last yuear too.

I was perplexed when I saw your comment in my gmail first, GVF, but coming to the actual comments section of the article, and reading d’s comment below, I assume now you misunderstood my comment.

And I do realise how much support there is for the game from the black/coloured population. One only has to look at crowd shots at any game anywhere the Boks play to realise that. And ofc the upsurge in black coloured people now playing the game is plain for all to see. I count it as a major reason why the Springboks will remain right at the top in the game for the foreseeable future.

Totally agree JNZ. I think he is a generational player that if developed properly could be up their with the likes of Kaino, Ardie, and Wiese. He does not quite fit any of their moulds - but has his own special X factor. Like any potentially great player he needs the opportunity to show what he has got. Ardie, Kaino and Wiese all got that opportunity.

The actual numbers tell a story of the impact Sititi had - 70 carry metres - second only to Will Jordan. Lakai 24m. Lakai made 9 tackles of 80 minutes, Wallace 5 over 50.

I was responding to the suggestion that Lakai is playing much better than Sititi. I dont think that is a totally fair characterisation generally or in relation to the third test in particular. Wallace ran 70 carry metres to Lakai’s 24 and tackled 5 to Lakai’s 9 - over 50 minutes to Lakai’s 80. I have had look more broadly and Wallace’s carries / minute and tackles / minute in the NC edged Lakai’s while Lakai edged Wallace in the SA Club games. So a tight contest on the recent stats. I accept though as you say Lakai brings a different game which he is stellar at - out wide and he plays a much better fetcher role too - and we cannot get too tied up in the stats. But the eyes tell me that Wallace did a great job in the third test too.

No, the attack fell apart because both the All Blacks forwards and backs lost their dominant ball carriers, and Jacobson, along with not being a talismanic figure within the team, injured himself.

The All Blacks backs selections have been far too much about covering all bases rather than thinking about opportunities to impact a game

The thought of keeping four tens, three of whom can cover 15 in the Bledisloe squad is mind bending and then still having two wingers who can cover 15 is a bit of overkill. The certainly won’t run out of full backs.
