'A week with the Barbarians' featuring Jamie Roberts, Julian Savea and more

World Rugby have given fans behind the curtain access to the Barbarians FC, and it’s the BaBas like you’ve never seen them before.

With appearances from Julian Savea, Andy Ellis, Steven Luatua, Jamie Roberts and host of other stars – ‘A week with the Barbarians’ – is a real treat.

The 51 minute documentary charts the week leading up to the Barbarian’s historic match with the All Blacks in Twickenham.

Looking forward to this. I think that while the challenges to the BlitzBoks and Silver Ferns are real, it’d be a huge upset if they didn’t win. Both teams have multiple threats across the field and while individually there are as big or bigger threats in the other teams, none of them have quite so many that can be relied on.

I don’t know who you hang around with or talk to. Must be rugby nerds. The Warriors are very popular all around the country. Walk around any small town and you’re most likely to see someone wearing a Warriors jersey. Especially kids. They’re doing signings, training sessions and interviews within the community and at schools.

They have sold out three games in a row in Christchurch.

You're absolutely spot on, SR has become a tryfest last few seasons entertaining crowd pleasing rugby but poor defensive efforts or strategy and that translated to the ABs, when they couldn't play their running game they looked clueless with no gameplan!

Also need to think of covering for him a lot more than for a player who has years of experience in Union. He may well make a lot of positional errors in these early games.

Lomax has one talent that does not change across the codes….his goal kicking. He is a very good striker of the ball, and from watching him in State of Origin, he has reasonable range, being able to convert from the sideline. Rare to see really long kicks of 45 m plus in League, so would not be sure what Lomax is like from those distances.

The 76% success rate for 742 points is impressive, and if he becomes an established starting player for the Force he would be a great backup for Ben Donaldson…also listed at 76% success.

“Terrible shortage of top forwards between Retallick and the 2020s”. This was partly caused by the signaling from the All Blacks coaches. The players that were getting picked we generally of the more ‘athletic’/’skilled’ type. Grafters just weren’t getting a look in. So many left, or just never got the opportunity to develop.

For instance, Michael Fatialofa could’ve been a very dependable, very hard working lock. But the All Blacks coaches wanted Tuipulotu as he has a higher ‘athletic’/’skilled’ ceiling. The issue was it wasn’t until about 2022 that Tuipulotu started really playing like an ‘80 minute’ footballer.
