Winless Wallabies change 5 for France with RWC dreams on the line

Australia head coach Joe Schmidt has made five changes to his Wallabies side for their final match of the year against France.

Australia have lost all three matches in their Quilter Nations Series campaign so far, against England, Italy and Ireland, which has seen them slip to seventh in the world rankings. However, a win by a margin of over 16 points at the Stade de France would see them displace Fabien Galthie’s side in the top six, and earn a Band 1 seeding for the 2027 World Cup draw next month.

Though a formidable task, Schmidt has turned to some stalwarts of Australian rugby for the match, including a recall for Taniela Tupou, who missed the loss to Ireland.

Tupou is one of three changes to the pack, with Billy Pollard starting at hooker in place of Matt Faessler, and Nick Frost starting in the second-row, bumping Tom Hooper to the back-row and Rob Valetini to the bench.

The two changes in the back line see Carter Gordon return to start at No.10, and Dylan Pietsch start on the wing instead of Filipo Daugunu.

“We’ve tried to freshen things up during the week after what’s been a dense and challenging Tour so far,” Schmidt said.

“The players have looked to prepare well and they’re eager to finish their season with a positive performance against one of the world’s best teams.”

David Havili on All Blacks reset: ‘You're trying to get noticed'

Congrads Dave Rennie & commiserations Jamie Joseph. It's going to be very interesting, courageous, solid the direction the AB's coach Dave Rennies taking the AB's. All sounds very exciting & new, my curiosity has gotten the better of me as I'm sure the majority of NZ Rugby rugby love community & the sports public in general.

Given the resemey Dave Rennie provided to the NZR committee, it must have been so over whelming & to hard not to accept his application. However like Dave Rennie said every super rugby player is on notice & there's no loyalties to previous & current AB's. Players are going to be picked on form especially the test series against France, Italy & Ireland in the June. This is going to be a challenge but a good hearty challenge to asses where their at, before they tour South Aftica. The South African tour is going to be their biggest challenge since coming away with their first test series since the 1996 then they have to play the Tri Nations series against SA & Australia. Dave Rennie should have a better inderstanding & have a valuation assesment to see where the AB's are at heading into the end of tour. Its all up the Super rugby players, previous & current AB's is your destination is in your hands. Wish you all well there will be the AB's coach Dave Rennie & his assistance together with four million (4,000,000) people going to be couch potatoes coaches watching.
