Four silver medallists from this year’s Paris Olympic Games have been named in Canada’s Women’s Sevens team for the Premier Rugby Sevens (PR7s) All-Star Tournament which will take place on Sunday, November 17, at Portland’s Providence Park.

Piper Logan, Asia Hogan-Rochester and Shalaya Valenzuela headline the Canadian side for the historic competition at the Oregon venue, as does Carrissa Norsten. Norsten was named the HSBC SVNS Series Rookie of the Year before later participating in an Olympics for the first time.

The SVNS Series phenomenon is from Waldheim, which is a town in Saskatchewan of around 1,000 people. Norsten proved to be a standout on both sides of the ball, with the Canadian taking out the award ahead of Kaitlin Shave from Australia and Spain’s Juana Stella.

Shoshanah Seumanutafa, Pamphinette Buisa and Mahalia Robinson and Hogan-Rochester join the team after representing the North American nation in WXV 1 on home soil. Canada beat France and Ireland, but fell short of glory against World No. 1 England at BC Place Stadium.

There are also players in this squad who have come out of Canada’s age-grade programs and the Maple Leaf Development Academy. It’s an exciting time for all involved as they look to stake their claim for a spot in Canada’s squad for the SVNS Series opener in Dubai later this month.

“The PR7s All-Star Tournament will help us kick-off the 2025 season, giving our program an opportunity to take on some quality competition and see some new player combinations ahead of the start of the 2025 HSBC SVNS Series,” coach Jocelyn Barrieau said in a statement.

“We’ve had a great week as a program leading up to our travel to Portland and are really looking forward to this upcoming Sunday.”

The 2025 HSBC SVNS Series gets underway from November 30 to December 1 at Dubai’s The Sevens Stadium. After that event, the party heads over to South Africa where Cape Town’s DHL Stadium host the second leg of the season on December 7-8.

Perth, Vancouver, Hong Kong China, Singapore and Los Angeles have been unveiled as the other stops on this year’s Series. LA’s Dignity Health Sports Park will host the 2025 World Championship event, which is not to be missed as it’s a winner-takes-all tournament.
