What Does WXV Stand For?

WXV stands for the Women’s 15. The ‘W’ is short for Women’s and the ‘X’ and ‘V’ are Roman numerals.

First contested in 2023, WXV is already one of the biggest international women’s rugby competitions in the world. Held annually, the tournament is contested by 18 teams divided into three separate divisions.

WXV 1 is the top tier of the tournament. It is contested by six teams, each of which qualify based on their standings in regional competitions. In WXV 1, these six spots are filled by the top three teams from the Women’s Six Nations and the Pacific Four Nations.
