HSBC SVNS Series leaders Fiji scored 20 unanswered points in an incredible comeback against South Africa in Perth, with try-scoring phenomenon Viwa Naduvalo starring in the 20-14 win on Saturday evening at HBF Park.

Fiji were crowned SVNS Singapore champions last Sunday, defeating France 21-12 at the National Stadium. Naduvalo was named the Player of the Final at the event for the second year running, and the 29-year-old has carried that form into the Australian leg of the Series.

This is the fourth pool-stage fixture between Fiji and South Africa during the 2025/26 campaign, having been drawn in the same group at every event to date. Fiji won an extra-time thriller between the two sides seven days ago in the Lion City.

Fast forward to SVNS Perth, Naduvalo became the top try-scorer in men’s seven this season with a double against the Blitzboks. This rivalry never disappoints, delivering a finals-type intensity in a match that decided the top-seeded side out of Pool A ahead of the semi-finals.

The Blitzboks, who took out the title at their home event in Cape Town last December, struck first through SVNS Series veteran Zain Davids. Davids recently reached the 50 try mark in a Blitzboks jersey and the 28-year-old added to that tally against Fiji.

Ricardo Duarttee went two-from-two with conversion attempts during the first half, adding the extras after both Davids and Sebastiaan Jobb’s scored tries. South Africa led 14-nil before Fiji struck back through Nacani Boginisoko just before the break.

Fiji completed three remarkable comebacks at SVNS Singapore last weekend, including a famous effort in the decider against France. In those moments, and in this clash with South Africa as well, the Fijians never appeared panicked or rushed.

Naduvalo helped Fiji start the second half in style with a try in the eight minute, making it a four-point game with plenty of time left to run on the clock. The RugbyPass SVNS Series MVP leader delivered more heroics a couple of minutes later by completing a double.

With that second effort, Fiji took the lead.

Iowane Teba crossed for what ended up being the final points of the contest in the 12th minute. Fiji had given it everything to take the lead in the first place, but continued to play with both composure and precision.

Fiji are through to the Men’s Cup semi-finals with a perfect 3-0 record from day one, which included earlier wins 26-10 against Argentina and 26-24 over Spain. As for the Blitzboks, they’ve also done enough to qualify for the next stage after defeating those two same opponents.

Two-time defending SVNS Perth champions Argentina finished day one with a winless record, having fallen to Spain 26-19 in their final match on day one. Santino Zangara scored one and Marcos Moneta crossed for a double, but Spain still did enough to complete the upset.

Jeremy Trevithick is the second top try-scorer on the Men’s SVNS Series behind Naduvalo, touching down for two tries against Los Pumas Sevens. Jaime Manteca and Francisco Cosculluela also made their mark with a five-pointer each.
