Wallaby centre Josh Flook adds more Super Rugby experience to URC club

TOKYO, JAPAN - OCTOBER 25: Josh Flook of Australia makes a break to score the team's second try during the rugby international test between Japan and Australia at National Stadium on October 25, 2025 in Sendai, Japan. (Photo by Koki Nagahama/Getty Images)

Five-times capped Wallaby centre Josh Flook has signed for Benetton Rugby on a one-year deal, with the option of extending his stay in Treviso through to 2028.

The 24-year-old, who was last capped against Japan in October 2025, has nearly six years of senior rugby under his belt, having made his debut for the Queensland Reds against Melbourne Rebels in 2020, aged just 18.

Strong on both sides of the ball, Randwick-born Flook joins Maori All Blacks and Hurricanes enforcer, Isaia Walker-Leawere, in swapping Super Rugby Pacific for the URC.

“Josh Flook is an internationally renowned player who has already proven his worth both in Super Rugby and with the Wallabies,” said Benetton President Antonio Pavanello.

“We’re delighted to have brought him to Treviso because he represents a highly skilled player with excellent game reading, defensive solidity, and a strong attacking presence.

“The centre position is particularly important, so we wanted to add a player with these characteristics to our squad, capable of ensuring quality, reliability, and international experience.

“We’re confident that Josh can make a significant impact in that position and help maintain our team’s high level of competitiveness.”

Flook, who has played over 50 games for the Reds, said: “I’m incredibly excited about the opportunity to join Benetton Rugby. I’ve been following the club and Italian rugby closely over the past year, and what’s struck me most is the passion they play with and the love their fans have for the game. It reminds me a lot of Queensland and how deeply rugby is loved there.

“Benetton plays a very exciting attacking game, which is exactly the kind of game that appeals to me, and I can’t wait to be part of this environment and contribute to what the team is building.”

So no mention of the fact that the Reds and Treviso have a partnership? Or that Flook was there for 2 months or so at the start of the 25/26 seson? Yes he was injured and didn’t play, but it’s sort of relevant. Not a complete bolt from the blue announcement given the relationship and Menoncello being off.

Why England may be in better shape to win the 2027 Rugby World Cup than France

This is all very glass half full but when you look at the cold hard facts you have to ask yourself where Englands defence will develop in the next 18 months? You also have to ask if 18 months and 15 or so matches is enough time to develop their attacking game under Borthwick. Clive Woodward had an awesome top class coaching staff with a squad that included top of class players right through the backs and forwards and world beating leaders. They were the envy of the World for the 2 or 3 years leading up to the 2003 world cup and scored wins in NZ and Australia before the tourney and away to South Africa a couple of years prior to that. This England side has no big match temperament, have not won away from home against any of the big sides including in France where they butchered 2 games in a row in the last 3 years. In NZ they also butchered a chance to win. When the pressure comes this team rarely finds a way to win. France have at least picked up wins in Ireland and at Twickenham. They havent covered themselves in glory on their southern tours but their impressive home record is in tact bar the loss to South Africa last year and the terrible loss to Ireland in 2024. France have an awe inspiring backline with magicians right through, they have plenty of power in forwards and world leading coaches. Add to that the brilliant Top 14 and I rate they are better off than the English. Sure they have their problems but I aint buying even the suggestion that England are better placed to win the showpiece than them.
