Wales add Rhys Davies to Six Nations squad

Wales have added Ospreys lock Rhys Davies to their Guinness Six Nations squad, bringing the total number of players to 39.

The four-cap Wales international is the second alteration Steve Tandy has had to make to his squad, following Sam Wainwright’s call-up to replace the injured Keiron Assiratti at tighthead.

No player has dropped out of the Wales squad, but Gloucester’s Freddie Thomas is still nursing a hamstring injury that he picked up earlier this month, and is not expected to make their round one match against England at Twickenham’s Allianz Stadium.

The 27-year-old Davies, who started in Wales’ 73-0 defeat to South Africa in November, will compete with Adam Beard, Dafydd Jenkins and Ben Carter for a place in the matchday squad in London.

The lock’s inclusion also brings the total number of Ospreys players in the squad to eight, the second-most behind the Scarlets’ nine, despite an uncertain future for the club.
