VIDEO: 'Everyone in Ulster is fully aware of Rory's drinking capabilities' - Henderson

By Ian Cameron

Ulster Rugby have backed captain Rory Best’s ability to put away pints after Joe Marler dropped the Ireland captain in it last weekend, letting slip that the primary learnings Marler took from the Lions tour were alcohol related.

Marler shifted the blame to the Ulsterman after repeatedly appearing before his wife drunk on video calls.

Speaking last weekend, Marler said: “Rory Best is the one to blame for that,” he added. “He is the one to blame for every time I spoke to my wife on FaceTime she said: ‘are you pissed again?’ And I was: ‘Of course not’.

The looeshead also admitted: “My drinking ability had to step up a bit.”

Both Ulster headcoach Les Kiss and teammate Iain Henderson rowed in behind their captain at the Pro12 launched this week, backing his ability to drink and the appropriateness of enjoying yourself on tour.
