Just over a week after beating Provence in the Pro D2 final, the Breton outfit have got to work on bolstering their squad ahead of another season in France’s top tier, with the 99-cap Puma arriving from Gloucester.

The Cherry and Whites released their list of departing players at the beginning of the month, days before their final game of the season, with the 34-year-old included in the list of 12 players. He started in the 54-21 victory over Newcastle Red Bulls at Kingsholm, which marked his 100th and final appearance for the club.

Gloucester had already recruited heavily in the second-row department before Alemanno’s exit was announced, with deals secured for South Africa lock Jean Kleyn and former Bristol Bears lock Joe Joyce.

Now that Vannes know their fate ahead of next season, move signings may follow as they look to build a squad capable of remaining in the Top 14.

“I am very proud and eager to join a great club like Rugby Club Vannes,” Alemanno said. “I know how passionate and loyal the fans are, which makes this opportunity even more special. I can’t wait to meet my teammates, get to work, and take on the challenges of returning to the Top 14 together.”

Gloucester director of rugby George Skivington said after the club’s departures were announced: “With a number of new faces joining us for next season, across the first team and a fresh academy intake, it’s inevitable that some players will be moving on at the end of this campaign.

“I’d like to thank every player who is leaving the club for their commitment and contribution during their time at Kingsholm. They’ve all played their part, whether that’s across a number of seasons or during a shorter spell, and they leave with our very best wishes for the future.

“It’s always a difficult time saying goodbye, particularly to those who have been with us for several years, and I know our supporters will join us in thanking them for everything they’ve given in Cherry & White.”
