Thomas Ramos withdrawn as injury-ravaged France announce 42-man squad
France head coach Fabien Galthie has named his 42-man squad ahead of their Autumn Nations Series campaign.
Galthie has already had to contend with a number of injuries leading up to their November campaign, and will initially be without Toulouse full-back Thomas Ramos, who will not team up with the squad due to personal reasons. The 30-year-old will join the squad at a later date, but was excluded from the initial list.
Ramos’ uncapped team-mate Kalvin Gourgues has made the squad. The 20-year-old centre is one of 10 uncapped players in the squad that will prepare to take on world champions South Africa, Fiji and Australia in November.
France’s injury list leading up to the autumn is well-documented and includes some front-line names such as Antoine Dupont, Peato Mauvaka, Uini Atonio, Francois Cros, Charles Ollivon, Baptiste Couilloud, Yoram Moefana, Théo Attissogbe and Gabin Villière, to name a few. However, Dupont’s deputy, Maxime Lucu, is included despite missing the start of the season with a thumb injury.
Whether the scrum-half, or Ramos, will be available to take on the Springboks on November 8 at the Stade de France is yet to be seen.
