Sharks made it three successive United Rugby Championship victories by beating Stormers 21-15 in Durban.

Tries from Ethan Hooker and captain Siya Kolisi, both converted by Siya Masuku, put them 14-0 ahead inside 17 minutes before Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s drop goal got Stormers on the board.

Leolin Zas crossed for Stormers to reduce the deficit further but Andre Esterhuizen went over for Sharks’ third try, Masuku again adding the extras, before the visitors were awarded a late penalty try to claim a losing bonus point.

I don’t see Hooker in the first-choice 23. He’s a good young player but the back three in the WC final would have to be Kolbe, Arendse, Willemse surely? Hooker is a combative disrupter but he has not shown himself to be a finisher in the KLA mould — yet.

Schmidt built foundations into a side that had completely lost its way. If Schmidt had not taken over when he did then Kiss would have been inheriting a complete train wreck. Kiss has been able to what he has been doing precisely because of Schmidt & his coaches. Cheers

I think we’re being a bit rough on Williams. Was probably #1 heading in to the RGR series, had a very average game in that first match not up to his usual standards, and probably justifiably bumped down to #3 now. Reinach’s form has also dipped a bit. Luckily VDB has stepped up to allow one / both of those two some breathing space to get their game back in order. Williams has the speed, skill and temperament to do well on the big stage, I’d back him being in the top 2 for the WC.

Khan and Pead are huge prospects for the future, surely not in the conversation for this WC though. I think Khan picked up a long-term injury for the Stormers against the ABs …?

Steenekamp is highly rated, but I agree: what we’re seeing out on the pitch is that he’s not dominating the way that Ox does. On the tighthead side we’ve got pretty solid cover, loosehead stocks are less compelling …

Agreed on all points PMcD. The Wallabies scrum and breakdown work is hugely underrated and when they leverage it they look a great team.

Re: SBs, they have reverted to a much more conservative style this year, Tonyball has dropped away unfortunately. Rassie has flagged that grinding is the way to win Cups, but we know his players can move the ball and I’d love to see some more of that for the November tour. Not just to win, but to win well.

The Wallabies can not afford to keep carrying Paisami’s carelessness. He does this all the b…. time and he keeps costing the team momentum and points.

Time to move on and bring in Isaac Henry or Kerevi or Perese or Poolman even. It will bring an immediate improvement to the Wallabies.

Interesting take. I’d go the other way: the recent rule changes favour the attacking team and have resulted in more points per game in every international and club competition gloablly.

For sure, let it rip on attack, but I’d be focusing on defence: the team that figures that out under this new framework will dominate the next couple years until everyone else catches up.

He’s just not very creative. A journeyman. Can do the basics OK but can’t see him ever setting the Wallabies alight whereas Carter Gordon and Declan Meredith can. Even tho Meredith has had a very clunky start to his international career. Once he gets his confidence there he will improve dramatically.

Actually I felt a bit sorry for Piardi,as he had reffed the game quite well.I think it was a combination of the technology failure and others like O’Keefe getting involved,which caused him to lose control of the situation.

Can’t blame the ref for the Aussies’ catastrophic loss of discipline.

In the last 10 minutes the Boks scored three tries, had another two turned down by the TMO and had another two held up over the line. If that’s not scruff of the neck we’re going to have to agree to disagree.

We definitely had the better of the aerial contest plus we will have a few more available what with Marky Mark, Petaia and the Force's league convert. Our line out is good, the ruck/maul also the scrum is coming along. Stability at 10 & someone with a good pass as a backup to Lonnergan are our problem areas as I see it. Cheers
