Scrum guru Matt Ferguson included in Harlequins backroom revamp

Harlequins have announced the arrival of former Northampton scrum coach Matt Ferguson as part of an overhaul of their backroom team.

Ferguson, who spent seven seasons as scrum coach at Franklin’s Gardens, joins the London club as lead transition coach, helping to manage the pathway between the academy and first team.

He was part of the England A men’s coaching team in February and has previously coached England Women.

Following a review of its rugby operations and the departure of Billy Millard, Harlequins have also made two new internal appointments.

Former Army Major Andrew Sanger moves into the new role of General Manager from his previous title of Head of Performance Support and Player Welfare, having first joined the Club as Player Development Manager in 2018.

Sanger will be ultimately responsible for all off-pitch performance areas, including the academy, athletic performance, medical, player recruitment and player welfare.

Meanwhile, Gerard Mullen moves into a dedicated position as first-team skills coach, having first joined the club’s coaching staff in 2020.
