Saints pull off Horne coup

Australia centre Rob Horne

Waratahs and Australia centre Rob Horne will join Northampton Saints ahead of the 2017-18 season.

The Saints have pulled off a coup to land the 27-year-old centre, who was vice-captain of the Wallabies last year and has won 33 caps for his country.

Horne is also the ninth-most capped player for Waratahs with in excess of 100 appearances for the Super Rugby franchise, but has opted to showcase his talents in the Premiership.

Saints director of rugby Jim Mallinder said: “Rob has played at the highest level of the sport for nearly a decade and we’re delighted that he has put pen to paper and agree to come to Franklin’s Gardens.

“He’s going to be a real asset for us, both with his quality of play and his leadership experience in what is a crucial position.”

Horne is relishing the opportunity to play his club rugby overseas as he prepares for the start of the Super Rugby season.

“Northampton is a club with a strong history and I look forward to being a part of that at the club. I’m excited for the journey ahead and experiencing Premiership and European rugby.” he said.
