Damning the torpedoes, while dodging hurricanes and the COVID-19 virus, the World Tens Series is happening. But let’s have three participants tell us all about it: England Sevens captain Tom Mitchell, the world’s most clever play-by-play man Nick Heath, and co-founder James Walker of Tiger Rugby. All three brave the sunshine, azure waters and pristine beaches to come on and answer all pertinent questions with our Matt McCarthy.

This might just be rugby between world cup cycles. Eventually when it comes to world cup time and knockout rugby, the scores eventually get tight, regardless of how explosive the backline is. If the forwards don’t lay a platform, an explosive backline is of no utility.

I’d love to see Australia playing like this more consistently and beating the likes of England, France and Ireland on a regular basis.

World rugby as a sport needs a strong Australian team, except for when it comes to the Bledisloe…that needs to stay in NZ.

I think we need to give more credit to the WB’s than we are - it’s almost a tale of Rassie’s B’s didn’t deliver and they went through the gears but the tackling and breakdown work was better from the WB’s than most teams and allowed them to maintain parity for big parts of that game.

I do feel the SB’s have become a bit more predictable this season, which teams are well prepared for. A little more attacking variation would also help mix things up a little.

I thought Bongi would make that squad as 3rd choice - with all his experience he can just slot in as injury cover with little fuss. Thats got massive value during a tournament that I am sure he will go after.

That Boks defence looked pretty good in Games 2-4 vs ABs. I think there is a tendency for all teams to score more tries in games at the moment, which is why I am surprised rassie hasn’t let rip with Tonyball a bit more.

Injuries have been a far bigger issue this year than I can remember G, not sure if that’s just too many games, or the age thing catching up with the squad . . . . But such huge rotations are never great.

I am used to JvG rotating starters and bench (which isn’t too terrible in games) but Rassie has pretty much been rotating the entire team and I am not sure of anyone that does that well.

Have a think for a minute…on exactly how you reckon Ireland would have fared after a four test tour hosting the ABs, travelling halfway around the world twice and then rocking up in Aus straight after to play a rejuvenated side with their tails up and waiting for them?

They’d have had to empty the AIL just to field a team!

It seems to be the replacement LHP position behind Ox is what is causing the issues, although for the life of me I don’t know whey they changed it after it worked so well last Austumn.

I think Steenekamp is quite tall and can occasionally struggle, which is why I still think Rassie may throw a curve ball and play Ox, Marx, Louw (as he has done this year) to start but may try TdT, (Grobelaar or Wessels) & Sadie to reinforce the bomb squad and rebuild the destruction from the bench.

Apparently he has the highest leap in the Wallaby squad, which is surprising, especially with Suallii who is a multi talented more athletic version of the limited Folau. As well as being a lot smarter.

If that was the case - why invest in taking him away to the SA Tour?

Will be interesting to see if he gets picked for the BC games, still not sure why Nacewa was dropped, pretty handy bench option as can also play centre and fullback.

On paper, its hard to disagree with your 1 & 2 ranking NB. But isn’t the problem that France face the very issue identified in this article. In November their first team will have had just one full game together since the 6N - a whole lifetime ago. Meanwhile the Boks have had the GR and Aussie. That is a major advantage for the Boks - even if playing in Paris. Look what happened to the Bok A team in their first full test together.
