The 26-year-old initially joined the three-time Premiership Women’s Rugby champions as injury cover in December. So far loosehead prop has made seven appearances for Dan Murphy’s team.

Coming into the international break this Spring, The Circus have registered 14 try scoring bonus point wins, have secured a home semi-final and top the league.

Dan Murphy, Gloucester Hartpury Head of Rugby, commented: “Niamh has demonstrated her quality consistently on the international stage, but what’s really stood out since she’s come in is the impact she’s had on the group.

“She brings real power in the set-piece, a high work rate around on the pitch, and a strong physical presence, but just as importantly, she’s fitted seamlessly into our environment and driven standards day in, day out.

“Bringing someone in of her calibre has been a major boost for us. We’re really pleased she’s decided to continue her journey with the Club, and we’re looking forward to seeing the impact she’ll continue to make.”

To date O’Dowd has win 23 caps for Ireland and came off the bench in her team’s 26-7 loss to France in Clermont in the Guinness Women’s Six Nations.

O’Dowd said: “I’m really excited to continue my time with Gloucester Hartpury. The group has made me feel welcome and it’s been great to be part of such a driven and supportive environment.

“The club’s success over the past few seasons speaks for itself, being three-time champions doesn’t happen by accident, and the standards set by the coaching team and group really stood out to be from the start.

“I’m looking forward to continuing my journey at the club and within the PWR.”
