Murray to start for Munster in Toulouse clash

Munster and Ireland scrum-half Conor Murray

Conor Murray has been passed fit to make his return from injury in Munster’s European Champions Cup quarter-final against Toulouse on Saturday.

The fly-half has been out of action since damaging his shoulder during Ireland’s 22-9 Six Nations defeat to Wales in Cardiff, but will start at Thomond Park.

Murray has not trained fully this week, but Rassie Erasmus named him in his starting line-up on the eve of the last-eight encounter.

The inspirational playmaker will line up alongside Ireland team-mates Donnacha Ryan, CJ Stander, Keith Earls and Simon Zebo, who will feature for the first time since the Six Nations.

Centre Francis Saili also returns ahead of schedule, with the centre named among the replacements after recovering from a knee ligament injury.

This is not a unique thing they are doing, it is just copying what other nations are doing in terms of ensuring cover against injury in an every more exhausting schedule. Any maybe form as it’s getting more competitive too

I didn’t believe this was about the RWC, I feel the four deep idea is just where Razor believes a side should be at any one time. I don’t know if Razor has mentioned a target of having it in place, but I’d assume it is something that he wants the side to have in perpetuity. Not reset and start again for the next WC.

Totally agree OtS - it should start with the “game plan & strategy” and then build your wider squad (4 deep clearly indicates a squad of 50-60 players), which you then narrow down to a training squad of 36 and ultimately the matchday 23, who deliver the result, so feels like this is the wrong priority to be focussing on at this stage.

I think this underestimates Dupont’s abilities. His adaptability was shown at Sevens. Try him with any partner. Also, dropping Penaud would be a huge and surely wrong decision.

Trouble is with a very long season ahead and 15 test matches, tour of SA and a game that’s getting more physical, players are getting bigger, stronger.The collisions are not what they used to be and we are seeing alot more injuries we need a large squad, l agree they need to settle on a 23 and get battle hardened gametime and experience into them but how with the considerations mentioned above

Sure but they will not change that. Their game plan from 9 is more effective overall.

That is fine, but Attissogbe can be involved for the next 3 World Cup campaigns. I’m not sure if he is quite ready at fullback yet. Why do you question the quality of Buros? Did you see how he performed against the All Blacks last year?

Correct, it’s not undermining. It’s just the reality. It makes me laugh when the Autumn series is used as a massive gauge of where each team is at, especially because of the circumstances you have mentioned.

If you read the articles about France on this website, whether it is “The golden era for Ireland and France is now over” or “France’s golden generation is greying without living up to expectations” you almost think to yourself, did they finish 4th or 5th in the 6N just this year?
