Ireland in talks for Chicago return

Two years removed from their groundbreaking 40-29 victory over the All Blacks, the Irish are poised to return to the Windy City, where they dye the Chicago river green for St. Patrick’s day and – as recently as 2012 – house about 39,000 Irish-Americans.

Reports out of Ireland say the Six Nations champions look set to return to Chicago’s Soldier Field where their historic defeat of New Zealand took place in 2016.

According to The Irish Independent, talks over Ireland’s extra end-of-year fixture are at an advanced stage, with Italy emerging as a potential opponent.

A repeat fixture against the All Blacks in Chicago is not possible due a scheduling conflict, but Ireland will take on the New Zealand side in Dublin on November 17.

For now, Ireland’s focus rests on their upcoming clash with England on Saturday. Head coach Joe Schmidt has the chance to earn his first Grand Slam with a victory after securing his third Six Nations title last weekend.
