Andy Farrell expects Dan Sheehan to be fit for Ireland’s World Cup campaign after revealing his first-choice hooker sprained a foot ligament against England.

As a South African I am watching what is happening in NZ rugby with great interest. All the focus is on a club competition while there is still no All Black head coach. Now just four months away from SA tour. There doesn’t seem to be any urgency which I find surprising.

Fainga’anuku’s return to New Zealand has been a bit disappointing so far.

There have been too many handling errors and missed tackles. I think he needs to settle into the inside centre position — number 12.

Well the very obvious replacement is FS so really the only question is who can they get to replace him at glasgow next season. You make pretty good points on the SRU/fan expectations but my sense is that it could be very difficult to deal with the fall out of a statement england win this time, and it could very well happen with that sco 23 selection. Recent near miss vs NZ, the arg capitulation and ofc the Newcastle issue have created a tricky narrative for all concerned as things stand…

Scotland scrum coach Pieter de Villiers: We can still win Six Nations

A match in Rome nowadays is no cakewalk. England struggled two years ago, Ireland struggled last year, SA (albeit) a man down got a real scare.

Lamaro said they have a “dream” this year. I think they plan to beat England in Rome.

Whether it’s Rennie or Joseph, we’ll have a real coach leading the All Blacks either way. Someone who truly understands the game… who will be much more demanding — and that’s going to do a lot, a lot of good.

Scotland scrum coach Pieter de Villiers: We can still win Six Nations

Its hard for Wales as rugby is a proper working class sport there. Wales doesn’t have the structure of fee paying schools to fall back on when in tight times. I think they will have to create a new model one which is able to genuinely create funding but also serve Welsh rugby. NZ are struggling with that at the moment.

“All tournaments are a lottery, I think you’ll need to look at yourself for placing more importance on it than is warranted. As I’ve often said, you take it way too far. if it’s meaningless behaving like that, you’ll send a better message than carrying on like you do. You’re hurting yourself.”

I am not sure what this means.

Winning with a weakened team is a good sign for Jamie Joseph’s chances of getting the All Blacks job.

The All Blacks need a coach that can turn them around and make them look like a properly coached team again.

Good for him to make the step up, particularly in terms of fan expectations.

Unfortunately his name is marred with that incident with Tupaea many years ago and now that he’s been back for a while plus also has got back into the All Blacks, perhaps he should be given a clean slate. I found his Super Rugby form strong last year and I think he should’ve played more for the Wallabies last year.

Why Andy Farrell is 'very happy' amid Ireland ‘soul-searching’



“(I’m) very happy because nobody was holding back so there’s a lot of honesty there, there’s no excuses,” replied Farrell when asked about this week’s preparations.

I heard Farrell on a radio interview on RTE on this. He rowed right back from his post match “intention” comments.

Except when one of the 2 off the bench is Esterhuizen or Kwagga - both “stardust” players 😊 and of course there are others like them - but not many.
