Henry Pollock branded 'child in Saints kit' by Leicester Tigers website
Leicester Tigers have branded Henry Pollock a “child in Saints kit” in their official match report following their 28-7 derby win over Northampton Saints at Mattioli Woods Welford Road.
The Saints back-rower was involved in scuffles with multiple Leicester players during a rain-soaked encounter, with tensions spilling over at the end of the first half.
Pantomine villain Pollock scrapped with fellow England teammates Ollie Chessum and Freddie Steward, among others, in what is fast becoming something of a feature of the young back-rower’s game.
Tigers’ post-match write-up took aim at Pollock without naming him, blaming him for starting the confrontation before adding a jibe about his behaviour as the players headed towards the tunnel.
The report read: “Only ten points were shared between the sides in the opening half played in the form of one 40-minute round, and as in many heavyweight battles the action came at the bell. A full 30-man brawl was started by a child in Saints kit and continued as he practised tying his laces on the walk up the tunnel.”
The passage appeared in an article headlined “Tigers smash Saints to take bragging rights”, published on Leicester’s official website after Saturday’s victory.
Northampton led 7-3 at the interval following a James Pater try, with Freddie Steward’s penalty providing Leicester’s only points of the opening half.
But Geoff Parling’s side took control after the break, scoring 25 unanswered points to secure a bonus-point victory in front of a sell-out crowd.
Jamie Blamire crossed from a maul before Cameron Henderson and Finn Carnduff added further tries. Billy Searle kicked a penalty and Steward scored Leicester’s fourth try to complete the win.
There was plenty of chat about Pollock’s antics on social media after the game.
“I genuinely love Henry Pollock as a rugby player but it’s hard to not think all hype has gone to his head,” wrote Gareth Jenkinson on X. “Lots of old heads here with heaps of England caps seemingly tired of his schoolboy antics.”
Lee Jarvis wrote: “I dread to think what would happen to Henry Pollock if he was playing in an era 25 years ago with some old school forwards with no TMO and loads of cameras… Love him or hate him hes a proper wind up merchant and can get away with it in this day and age because hes protected.”
