Harlequins have appointed Pat Metcalfe-Jones at the club’s new Head of Women’s Rugby.
Metcalfe-Jones succeeds Andy Rhys Jones, who has left West London to take up the position of Head of Women’s Performance and Pathways at Scottish Rugby.
She has taken on the role having previously served as head coach at the University of Surrey, along with being the Women’s Pathway Manager at Harlequins. Metcalfe-Jones will work closely with Harlequins head coach, Ross Chisholm, to keep driving the programme forward.
Previously Metcalfe-Jones has worked at the Head of Girls’ Rugby at City of Oxford College, for Wasps and with England Rugby as Centre Excellence Head Coach.
Within the role she will be responsible for managing all off-field aspects of the women’s rugby programme. This includes strategy, staffing, recruitment, pathways and other operational responsibilities.
As Women’s Pathway Manager, Metcalfe-Jones has aided in the development of Zara Green and Maddy Page, who progressed from the Senior Development Players to being part of the senior squad and are England age-grade internationals.
Metcalfe-Jones has also developed a partnership between Harlequins Women and the University of Surrey. Currently the university side are top of BUCS Premier South and have a number of their athletes training in the Harlequins environment alongside their higher studies.
Laurie Dalrymple, Harlequins’ Chief Executive Officer, said: “Pat has been at Quins since September 2024 and has been a real driving force behind the development of the pathway programme for Harlequins Women.
“We are delighted to have filled this role internally and have no doubt that, continuing to work with Ross and the team, Pat will continue to drive the programme forward at an incredibly exciting time for Women’s rugby.”
Metcalfe-Jones said: “It’s a huge honour to take on this role. I’ve seen first-hand the work Andy has done over recent years to drive the women’s programme at Harlequins forward, and I’m excited to build on those strong foundations.
“This is a hugely exciting opportunity, and I’m really looking forward to helping take the women’s programme to the next level at such a pivotal time for the women’s game.”
