Gloucester's PREM rivals ready to swoop for England centre Seb Atkinson

Leicester Tigers are understood to be exploring a potential move for Gloucester inside centre Seb Atkinson when his contract runs out at the end of the season.

The Tigers believe Atkinson, 24, who has won seven England caps, could address one of their squad’s problem areas next season and have put him on a list of players they are keen to speak to.

Atkinson, who started his career at Worcester Warriors, joined Gloucester in 2022, won a PREM Rugby Cup two years later, and was linked with a move to London, where his girlfriend, Siena, works for Goldman Sachs.

Saracens and Harlequins were both mentioned as possible destinations, but the Tigers are the first club to break cover and express interest in signing him when his contract runs out next summer.

The Tigers have seen Dan Kelly (Munster) and Izaia Perese (Queensland Reds) leave the club over the past couple of seasons without bringing in anyone who could add depth in that area.

Gloucester boss George Skivington told RugbyPass earlier this week that he is relaxed about speculation over Atkinson’s future because quality players will always attract interest from elsewhere. “Look, guys like Seb will obviously always be in high demand. You know, he’s been here a long time with invested a lot in him, and he’s playing for Gloucester and playing for England.

“So he’s in a pretty good spot as it is, but guys like that will always, as I say, be in demand, but I think we’ve got a good environment here. There are guys who are in the position that they need to make decisions if they want to stay with us.

“But with all these things, you can only control the bits you can control, and there are always numerous factors for players to consider. We would obviously hope, particularly guys we’ve invested a lot of time in, would stay, but sport is sport, and it can be cruel occasionally.”
