Just a day after announcing the signing of Wales captains Jac Morgan and Dewi Lake, Gloucester have revealed that their compatriot Tomos Williams will leave the club at the end of the season.

The scrum-half, who was one of two Welshman alongside Morgan to be originally selected for the British and Irish Lions this year, is in his second season at Kingsholm, having joined from Cardiff in 2024.

The 30-year-old was crowned the Premiership player of the season in his debut campaign, and capped off his season with a place in Andy Farrell’s Lions squad, only for a hamstring injury to cut his tour short.

The Cherry and Whites battled to keep hold of the 67-cap Welshman with his contract expiring at the end of the season, but he would have been in high demand. Gallagher PREM rivals Saracens have been linked with the scrum-half, though his next club is yet to be confirmed.

Williams was rested for Gloucester’s recent 31-3 Investec Champions Cup defeat to Munster after starting the week before in a victory over Castres. The club will return to PREM action this weekend with a trip to Welford Road to take on Leicester Tigers.

A Gloucester statement reads: “Tomos Williams will depart Gloucester Rugby at the end of the 2025/26 season.

“The scrum-half, who arrived at Kingsholm in the summer of 2024, made an immediate impact in Cherry & White, winning the Gallagher Player of the Season Award in his inaugural Gallagher PREM season.

“After impressing at Kingsholm, Williams was offered a new deal to stay at the club beyond the end of the season, but has instead opted to pursue a new challenge elsewhere.

“The Welshman will depart with the best wishes of everyone at the club when the time comes, but in the meantime, is entirely dedicated to ending his time at Gloucester Rugby on a high.”
