Glasgow Warriors pick 11 Scotland internationals for trip to Munster

Glasgow Warriors have selected a strong team featuring 11 Scotland internationals for their opening United Rugby Championship against Munster at Thomond Park on Saturday.
Hooker Gregor Hiddleston, who won his first three Test caps in the Scots’ opening Nations Championship fixtures in July, starts in the front row along with tighthead Murphy Walker, with Gregor Brown and Max Williamson packing down at lock.
Rory Darge and Matt Fagerson feature in the back row, the latter reverting from blindside to his former No.8 role after the departure of Jack Dempsey to Japan.

The back three features Kyle Rowe and Jamie Dobie – making his 100th Warriors appearance – on the wings alongside soon-to-be-Scottish-qualified full-back Josh McKay, with captain Stafford McDowall and Ollie Smith teaming up at centre and George Horne starting at scrum-half alongside Dan Lancaster at No.10.
Scotland captain Sione Tuipulotu, whose game-time is being managed heading into the new campaign, will not feature in Limerick while Glasgow skipper Kyle Steyn (foot), props Zander Fagerson (knee) and Rory Sutherland (calf) and lock Alex Samuel (knee) are among a dozen players currently nursing injuries.
But experienced lock Scott Cummings will feature from the bench, where Australian back Bayley Kuenzle is poised for his competitive Glasgow debut after his arrival from Western Force and academy scrum-half Callum Reidy could also make his Warriors bow.
“Both men have worked hard during the summer to put themselves in this position and have earned their opportunity,” said Warriors head coach Franco Smith on the eve of his fifth season in charge, having seen his side top the URC table last season only to fall at the semi-final stage to Bulls in the play-offs.
“The whole squad is looking forward to the start of a new BKT URC season this weekend, as we travel to one of the toughest venues in the competition to start our campaign,” he added.
“Everyone at the club is proud to see Jamie [Dobie] bring up a century of appearances – he is someone who cares a great deal about being a Warrior, and who gives his all each time he steps onto the field.”
