Gabriel Hamer-Webb leaves Cardiff with Premiership outfit circling
Cardiff have confirmed that winger Gabriel Hamer-Webb will leave the club this summer, with RugbyPass previously reporting that Leicester Tigers are eyeing the 24-year-old.
The former Bath wing moved on a permanent basis last summer, having previously been on loan in the Welsh capital in 2023, as well as enjoying a stint with Northampton Saints and Southland Stags in the National Provincial Championship in New Zealand.
“Thank you to the club for the opportunity to represent the city that means so much to my family,” said Hamer-Webb.
“Most importantly I’d like to thanks my team mates and the fans for the many memories I am leaving with.”
His announcement has come a day after his Cardiff boss – now Wales interim head coach – Matt Sherratt named his Wales squad for the upcoming tour of Japan, a squad Hamer-Webb missed out on.
A move back to the Gallagher Premiership would reduce the winger’s chances of a call-up for Wales, who he qualifies for through his Welsh mother, but not extinguish his hopes entirely. The former England U20 international would be entitled to play in another league, as Wales are allowed to select uncapped overseas players.
Speaking at the beginning of the season, the winger said it was a “big goal” of his to represent Wales.
“Wales is definitely on my radar right now,” he said.
“But I’ve got to really earn it because I’ve come into a squad where you’ve got back three internationals and you’ve got the likes of Rio Dyer at the Dragons who is doing so well right now. But it is a big goal of mine.”
