Former Queensland Reds winger Ivania Wong will wear another Super Rugby Women’s club’s colours for the first time this weekend, named in an extended ACT Brumbies squad for a pre-season trial in the nation’s capital.

Wong, who was named the 2022 Super Rugby Women’s Player of the Year, will face the Reds at Brumbies HQ. Coach James Erwin has named five current Wallaroos in the 26-player lineup, which includes Ella Ryan at fly-half.

Ryan debuted for the Wallaroos during the recent Pacific Four Series, while forward Lily Bone was capped for the first time against Fijiana in March. Spanish international Anne Fernandez De Corres also brings test-level experience into this Brumbies lineup.

Martha Fua will pack down in the front row alongside former NSW Waratahs hooker Millie Parker and tighthead Linda Emelio. Thalia Uilelea and Grace Sullivan are the two locks, rounding out the starting tight five.

Jess Grant and Chioma Enyi will line up on the flanks, with Rayna Ellis named at No. 8. Fernandez de Cores and Ryan make up an exciting halves partnership, while Merania Parone and Bonnie Brewer will form the centre pairing.

Wong joins winger Paua Lee Going and fullback Ash Bishop in the back three. Coach Erwin has selected a handful of academy graduates in the matchday side, including Makenna Ravouvou and Georgie Hayes on the bench.

The Brumbies get their Super Rugby Women’s campaign underway next month on June 7, when they take on the Reds at Brisbane’s Ballymore Stadium. It’s a rapid five-round regular season, ahead of the semi-finals and Grand Final.
