14 uncapped players included in extended Wales squad for WXV

Wales head coach Sean Lynn has named a 46-player extended training squad for their four-game WXV Global Series campaign.

In total 14 uncapped players have been named in the squad. This includes Lily Hawkins, Amy Williams, Kelsie Webster, Stella Orrin and Lucy Issac, who all represented Wales in their uncapped fixture against the Barbarians at Allianz Stadium in June.

Ffion Williuams, Crystal James, Shanelle Williams and Savannah Picton Powell are more of the uncapped players named in the squad. Of the 46 players selected by Lynn, 37 have played Celtic Challenge rugby for either Brython Thunder or Gwalia Lightning.

Sean Lynn, Wales head coach, said: “This is a new look Wales squad for a new season as we prepare for an exciting and demanding WXV campaign.

“The players selected have all impressed and will be put through a robust pre-season training camp before we select the final squad for the Test matches against South Africa, USA and Japan.

“All the players were given individualised training programmes which they followed before meeting up for Block One of pre-season. High standards and clear expectations have been set for the players and that will allow us to have a real focus on the rugby.”

Wales will play home WXV Global Series fixtures against South Africa and the USA Women’s Eagles this September. In October, Lynn’s team will take on Japan across consecutive weekends.
