Former Great Britain captain Fergusson lands Celtic Challenge coaching role

Former Great Britain Sevens captain Robbie Fergusson has been named Glasgow Warriors head coach ahead of the 2026/27 Celtic Challenge season.

The 32-year-old, who has most recently worked as an assistant with the Hong Kong China Sevens and has also worked as an assistant with Great Britain Women’s Sevens. He also spent two spells with Glasgow in his playing career.

Fergusson has also preciously been Director of Rugby of Ayr RFC and the Ayrshire Bulls. During his time with his hometown club he oversaw their senior and pathway programmes.

He retired in 2024 to conclude his nine-year career. Fergusson made over 50 appearances on the HSBC SVNS Series, competed at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo and at two Commonwealth Games for Scotland.

Fergusson will join Scotland head coach Sione Fukofuka as an assistant coach for their WXV Global Series fixtures across September and October against Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

“Robbie is an exciting coach who has experienced a wide range of high-performance environments throughout his playing and coaching career.

“Those experiences have given him a strong understanding of the standards required to build a successful programme. Having previously represented Glasgow Warriors, he also brings a first-hand understanding of the club’s identity and ambitions.

“With an exciting Celtic Challenge season ahead and several new players joining the squad at Scotstoun, we look forward to seeing Robbie lead the programme through its next phase of development.”

Fergusson takes charge of a Glasgow team that has already confirmed that Scotland internationals Elliann Clarke, Rhea Clarke, Holly McIntyre, Gemma Bell, Becky Boyd, Fi McIntosh, Anne Young, Lucia Scott and Evie Wills have joined the Scotstoun club for next season.

In the 2025/26 Celtic Challenge season, Glasgow missed out on the play-offs after they registered only two wins in 10 games.
